We came across this great scene and it was crying out to be painted! I love the simplicity, just a tree standing by itself in the Scottish Highlands.

Creating a watercolour of this prompted another painting, this time emphasis on creating an interesting watercolour like feel with expressive marks and gestures, a design based on the actual place. The first part of the painting was a white underpainting with the textures etc that I just spoke of in the hope that when the paint would be applied quite finely it would create an interesting texture.

At this point you can see that I have applied much more detail, reworking some areas here and here and recreating the effect.
